Editorial policy
How the work is made, checked and corrected.
This page sets out how Insure Before Driving produces its journalism. It is written to be held to.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made by the editorial desk alone. Advertising is sold around the articles, never inside them. No advertiser, agency or network sees a piece before publication, and none has ever been offered the opportunity to.
We do not accept payment for coverage, for a mention, or for a link. If a piece is ever produced under a commercial arrangement it will be labelled as such at the top, in the same size type as the headline.
Sourcing and accuracy
Where a piece relies on a figure, a rule or a study, the article names it in the text so you can go and look. We avoid citing a number without saying who produced it and when, because a statistic with no provenance is decoration.
Where a subject is genuinely disputed, the article says so and represents the disagreement rather than resolving it for the sake of a cleaner conclusion.
Who writes
Every article here is written and edited by a person. Automated drafting is not used for published pieces.
Writers are named on every article and have a profile page listing everything they have written for the site. A byline is a statement of responsibility, so pieces are not published anonymously.
Corrections
When an article is wrong, it gets fixed and the fix is disclosed at the foot of the piece. Silently rewriting a published article is the one thing we will not do.
To report an error, use the contact form and choose “Correction”. Tell us the article and what is wrong; we will look at it and reply.
The limits of what we publish
Insure Before Driving publishes general information. It does not know your circumstances, and a general explanation is not a substitute for advice from someone who does. Financial rules, rates and products vary by country and change often. Our disclaimer sets this out in full.
Photography and credit
Photographs are licensed from Pexels under its licence and credited to the photographer beneath the image. Photographs are illustrative: unless a caption says otherwise, a picture shows the general subject of an article rather than the specific instance described in it.
